Video of Coco’s reunion

OzarksFirst.com has posted a video of the Harvey’s reunion with their dog Coco. We facilitate reunions between pets and their families on a daily basis, but this is the first time that I’ve gotten to have a glimpse in to one of those moments and it was truly a pleasure. I’d like to extend sincere thanks to everyone involved in Coco’s return!

Microchipping in exotic pets

I came across a BBC News article about microchipping snakes, other reptiles, and even … fish.

“Some of the Koi carp that people exchange for tens, if not hundreds of thousands of pounds can be 1m long so they can cope with a little chip.”

I must admit, I was aware of the fact that some Koi kept by enthusiasts are worth a great deal of money, but it would never have occurred to me that someone might have them microchipped! We have some ferrets registered with helpmefindMYPET and we have sent out alerts for several lost parrots, but no fish as of yet. It was certainly an interesting read and it opened to my eyes to just how broadly used microchip identification is becoming.

Finally on his way home!

Family photo of Coco, taken before he went missing.

After more than five months, Coco, the Silky Terrier that went missing last December in California, has begun his journey on a nearly 2000-mile flight home to his family in Springfield, Missouri. Coco’s family, the Harvey’s, are very excited for this reunion; they had given up hope of ever seeing him again when they had to move back to Springfield while he was still missing.

It happens to the best of us…

Bear is back home (Al Podgorski/Sun-Times)

After over three days, Bear, a Chicago police dog, has been found and safely returned to his handler. Last Wednesday night, he had become frightened by a thunderstorm, so much so that he climbed a six-foot-fence and went missing from his home. A concerned citizen spotted Bear and was able to flag down another police officer who said that Bear immediately jumped in to her squad car. The Chicago Sun-Times has the details of the story.

Family’s dog found 2000 miles away!

Coco, a 15-month-old Silky Terrier and beloved member of the Harvey family was recently found in the Sacramento, California area, almost 2000 miles away from his family in Springfield, Missouri. Due to a registered microchip and the generous, orchestrated efforts of some terrific people at the Sacramento SPCA, the Petland in Springfield, and helpmefindMYPET (I’m happy to say that we got to play our part in this!), Coco will be on a flight in less than a week, ready to be reunited with his family who is eagerly awaiting him in Springfield. For full details on how this story unfolded, (more…)
